I’m ready to add a shunt to my motorhome

,

Going to add a shunt style battery monitor to my house battery. My preference would be to have a monitor located on the wall inside the coach so I can conveniently check SOC. This will also give me a better. Bluetooth connection to my phone while inside. On my previous coach, I installed a SmartSolar charge controller in the battery compartment and found that I had to be standing next to the battery compartment or inside directly above the compartment to connect via Bluetooth.

It’s going to be quite a project to route a cable through the chassis and up into the space where the monitor will eventually be mounted. If, during installation, I just leave the monitor display in the same compartment as the shunt, will I still be able to connect via the app even if I need to be close to the compartment? I could do this for a little while until I have time to crawl around underneath and route the cable.

I guess my actual question is does the BMV 712 have a Bluetooth signal strength that is comparable to the strength of the signal from the SmartShunt?

The BT signal from the SmartShunt leads a lot to be desired especially in a motorhome or a boat’s engine room. The BMV712, on the other hand, has a robust BT signal and the transmitter/receiver is located in the readout module. So your plan to temporarily site the monitor in the battery compartment until you can move it to a more convenient location is sound.

Thank you Charlie. That’s what I was hoping to hear.
