MK3-Multiplus 2 48 5000 70 disappears from ESS – communication problem

Hello,

I’ve been running an ESS system since 2022 consisting of an RPi with Venus OS, an MK3, a MultiPlus-II 48V 5000 70, and a JKBMS LFP battery system.

Unfortunately, the MultiPlus-II has recently been showing as “Off” in the VRM Portal. The Control Console no longer loads, and the VE.Bus device no longer appears in the device list.

I’ve managed to narrow down the issue after trying various things (see info below).

When I connect the MultiPlus-II to my PC using a VE.Bus cable, an MK3 adapter and a USB cable, I can access the MultiPlus device via VEConfigure. I can read and write settings — everything works perfectly. However, using the same connection, I can’t access the device via VictronConnect.

What could be causing this?

The MultiPlus-II itself seems fine and appears to be working. It clicks when starting up, switches to inverter mode and then goes to mains.

I’ve now updated all the other devices.

It’s just that neither the RPi nor my PC can access the MultiPlus using VictronConnect.

Does VEConfigure possibly use a different communication method from VE.Bus?

I already posted more information here (last post): Multiplus II "verschwindet" aus meiner Installation - #8 von phoenics - Victron Multiplus / Phoenix - Akkudoktor Forum

I’d be grateful for any help.

Best regards!

Anyone from Victron around on this forum?

There are a few Victron employees here, but the community isn’t an official support channel.

The MK3 might have a problem. Perhaps try replacing it or making a warranty claim with the dealer (5-year warranty).

Perfect answer, so I’m posting it here again for clarity.

The MK3 was faulty — I’ve just replaced it (and then saw your excellent tip).

The MK3 was also faulty in such a strange way that VEConfigure worked but Victron Connect didn’t. To me, that means the two tools communicate differently somehow.

Many thanks, @M_Lange
