Microgrid setup with inverters already in Master/Slave

So I have a customer asking about some of the finer points of creating a microgrid system.

He has 2 existing systems as follows

System 1: 48/10kVA Multi-II

System 2: 3 x 24/3kVA Multis-II in Master/Slave configuration.

In particular what he wants to know is…

To combine these two system into one microgrid does he have to reset all the 3kVA multis to individual operation and rewire them all together using AC-IN?

Or

Does he leave them as a set in M/S and the whole set becomes one powerbank in the microgrid.

And then…

How does he wire it all together? AC-IN of the Master? Or AC-In of all units?

Please ask for clarification if I haven’t expressed the question clearly.

Cheers!

@guystewart Can you help?

Hi @Diamond

If the “3k Multis” are MultiPlus and not MultiPlus-II, then they do not support Microgrid.

@guystewart
Edited to confirm ALL units are MP-II

Alright,

So either method is possible, but given the existing wiring and such should all be in place for the parallel MP-II 3ks, I would leave that as it as it is and not run them as individual Power Banks.

Sharing the same battery from different Power Banks isn’t something we have documented one way or the other yet. So better it’s done in a tested way, which is to leave them in master slave parallel.

The normal rules apply then for that parallel system. All AC-IN from each unit should be connected to a combined AC junction box, which is then connected to the Microgrid AC Bus.

This will involve some rewiring to remove the AC-Out connections (to load) and move them onto the microgrid AC bus (after the MP-II 3K are combined)

If you have a rough diagram I can comment on it.

@guystewart
And regarding firmware, can you confirm the process?
Does only the Master require the firmware update to microgrid or ALL of the MP-ii in the M/S set?
And then,
Does he need to run the VE Quick Config again to reload as M/S?

@guystewart
Have you got time to get back to me on this question about the firmware and programming?

He has the project slated for this weekend, if we can get all the answers.

Cheers!

All units need the MG firmware so would need their configs reapplied and then configured for microgrid operation.

  1. Repeat the process for all MultiPlus, MultiPlus-II, Quattro or Quattro-II units.

Nick is correct. All units need the Microgrid firmware, and updating to that will clear the settings and require a reconfiguration.
