I had a CSB2 battery balancer fitted about 2.5years ago when I bought my camper so that when the leisure battery had filled itself from solar, would then send a maintenance charge to the Fiat vehicle battery. I had this fitted because my alarm/tracker would drain it while in storage for a long time.
This had stopped working and sending a charge to the Fiat Battery so I sourced help and was advised to fit an Orion XS 12|12. After having it fitted along with an additional solar panel and a 100|30 MPPT at great expense, I’ve just been told by my installer/supplier who said that this was the way to go, that this doesn’t do as I want and my Fiat Battery won’t be charged. He did say that there’s a software update in the pipeline that will enable this but not sure if it’s a fob off.
Should this unit do as I wanted?
The Orion XS will only charge in one direction. These are normally fitted with the input from the engine battery and charge the leisure battery when the engine battery is charging from the alternator. There is a possible future update to allow reverse charging in this arrangement.
However, in your situation, your solar is charging the leisure battery, so you set the input of the Orion XS from the leisure battery to charge the vehicle battery when the leisure battery is charging. Many people arrange them like this. For this arrangement you do not need to wait for the firmware update.
Many thanks for the response.
I am assuming that’s some setting in the app? Sorry a real newbie to all this charge wizardry hence my reliance on a professional installer, which didn’t go to plan.
So if I set this setting when I drive the house battery won’t be charged? is the correct? it will solely rely on solar? This isn’t an issue as I’m in Spain with 370w solar and a 100|30 MPPT.
My main concern is the Fiat battery is kept topped up
The Orion XS has dedicated input and output terminals, which battery connects to which terimnal sets the charge direction not the app. Input from leisure, output to engine battery. The alternator will not charge the leisure battery.
