have a Cerbo GX, multiple MPPTs and a 48/15000/200 connected to a bank of 5x100amp, 10kWh LiFePO batteries.. Grid connected, planning on ESS/NodeRed .. all good, sill building but don’t expect any issues… however also have a 6kVA backup generator that i would like to bring into the mix for extended power outages..
So i can’t run an ATS and change over because the 15000 will overload it, so was thinking of a charger to the batteries.. however this is another issue as there don’t appear to be any 48vdc 100amp chargers available that would also be compatible with the GX so everything is aware… until i thought to myself, “could i use a multiplus in charge only mode?” .. hence the question above.
So to clarify, can a Multiplus II 48/5000/70 be connected to the same battery bank as a 48/15000/200 with the generator as its AC input to provide a 48vdc by 70amp charging supply?
The node for the Multiplus has an AC input limit option, pass in the current you want. The Cerbo also has generator control options that might play well with your setup.
It works great on the 3kVA in our RV. I don’t know about the bigger ones yet, thats my next project
Michelle wanted to connect it to a generator, which is an independent AC source.
Is it possible instead to have it connected to the grid, using a Multiplus of a different size to the main one? The issue is that I want the inverter function turned off — I don’t want it contributing to the load or exporting. The “inverter off” command I can send via Node-RED is a Venus system-level command, not a per-Quattro/Multiplus command.
So my question is: can I use the VE.Bus System Control “switch position” command (Off / On / Inverter Only / Charger Only) to control this unit? And does that still operate if the physical front-panel switch is set to Charger?
Essentially, I want to control when it is in Charger Only mode, so it only charges during the cheap tariff periods.
