Dear Sir/Madam,
I own a hybrid system based on the MultiPlus-II GX 3000 with four SmartSolar MPPT chargers (3x 100/20, 1x 150/35), connected via a USB hub and VE.Direct/USB adapters. I have noticed a limitation in the Venus OS user interface (Remote Console/Overview) that makes it difficult to quickly check the total solar yield.
1. Description of the Problem
On the main summary screen (Overview) of the Venus OS system:
The power yield (W) displayed is from only one SmartSolar MPPT charger.
Data from all remaining three chargers are correctly aggregated and visible in the sum shown on the power flow diagram, as well as in the “Device List” menu and on the VRM Portal (where the functionality is correct).
This makes it difficult to quickly verify the total current PV yield without navigating to the “Device List” submenu.
This is inconsistent with the fact that Victron Energy actively encourages the use of systems with multiple MPPT chargers.
2. Proposed Solution
I propose changing the logic in the UI presentation layer of Venus OS:
Instead of displaying data (W) in the textual row (below the diagram) from only one, selected device (e.g., the MPPT with the lowest ID), the “Solar Charger” field should display the summed power yield (W) from all connected and active SmartSolar MPPT chargers.
3. Justification
Intuitiveness: For the user, the total power available at any given moment is the most critical information, not the yield from a single partial charger.
Consistency with VRM: This aligns the presentation logic with the VRM portal, where the sum is displayed by default.
Functionality Preservation: Full, detailed data for each individual charger would remain available in the “Device List” section for diagnostic purposes.
This change would significantly improve the user experience and eliminate the perception of a UI limitation in complex Multi-MPPT systems.
Thank you for considering this proposal for inclusion in a future Venus OS update.
Sincerely,
