How to wiring RJ45 for devices?

Hello,

I’m working on the electrical system in my vehicle and I’m wondering about the RJ45 cable configuration for Victron devices?

I’m going to install a digital multifunction control, so I’ll be using the RJ45 cable, but I’d like to know how the connection works. Is it a standard, simple connection like at home?

Thank you

The Victron V.Can cable are basically cat5 with RJ45 connectors. They are used for CAN-bus communications between Victron devices. Read the manuals for the devices you are connecting. Some require terminations. Also, take a look at VE.Direct cable options. These will plug into a GX device also and may be better in some scenarios with some devices.

If you are just using it for the Digital Multi Control to an inverter/charger simply plug it into the inverter and into the control. Nothing special.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply. Here I’m referring more to the cable diagrams to follow; diagram A and B are different, and they are either straight or crossed, as shown in this photo. I don’t have all the devices yet. I have only CAT7 cable, i think this is OK too

the wiring should be straight, not ctossed

It doesn´t matter if you use A or B - as only orange and green is swapped - but same on both ends

The signal won´t see the color of the cable…

Victron need the straight cables, not cross over. (Cross over is used a.e. between routers, if the interface cannot configured.)

i´d better say was used

I can´t remember any Ethernet device in the past 20 years that needet a crossover cable

Yes, modern devices can configured or they auto detect the pins “Auto MDI-X“.

Some Telekom routers…

Hi everyone,

Okay, so I understand that a straight connection is necessary, and that it only uses terminals 1 and 6, so just two wires, is that correct?

VE.Can uses for example 6 pins.
