Grid import/export whilst battery is feeding AC-Loads

Hi All,

New to the hobby of Victron Multiplus ESS and loving it so far.
I do have a question with something that is happening that i cannot explain, most likely due to lack of knowledge on my part.

My setup:
3 phase multiplus setup in Europe
Grid tied to a 3x25A circuit
628Ah battery connected
Cerbo GX with ESS configured (Dynamic ESS is disabled)
NO LOADS connected on the AC_IN side

Scenario:
Full battery, aprox 800 watts in AC-Load (well within the capacity of the battery)
ESS is working hard to keep the net consumption from the grid at the configured 50watts.
But here is the thing i do not understand: Why is there feed in to the grid on L1 and L2 and consumption on L3 from the grid?

I would expect the battery to do all the heavy lifting and supply all the required power for AC-Loads.

What am i missing?

P.s. i can confirm this power usage from the grid happening on my p1 meter with same results on the 3 phases i see in VRM for the grid.

Thank you in advance for making me a bit wiser!

Your system supplies the AC loads. It does it by keeping the net grid import/export at the level you set, approximately 50W. -96-271+429 is +61W, thats what your grid meter is seeing, not the individual per-phase consumption/feed-in. It simply accounts for the arithmetic sum of the three power figures.

What kind of heavy lifting are you expecting here? Did you expect your system to match the power on a per-phase basis? Then you would need to switch the regulation to “Individual Phase”. If your grid meter does calculate/measure on a per-phase basis, which again is uncommon but possible, then you could use this regulation system, but it has its downsides too.

If your gridmeter is simply using the arithmetic sum then leave it at “Total of all phases”

Totally forgot about the fact that the grid meter applies arithmetic summing. so conclusion, normal behaviour as part of the way victron applies fase balancing.
Thank you for your quick reply!
