Generator recommendations

Hello all

I have a Mulitiplus II 24V inverter/charger and need a backup generator for when I don’t have enough solar or don’t move for the Bat2bat to be in operation.

I bought a 3200Kw unit that weighed over 50Kg and it only squirted in about 800W after I tweaked the settings to get it to work due to fluctuating frequency and voltage. It only cost me about €350.

So now I’m looking at a Honda EU22i (£1090) which is just over 20Kg but gets really good reviews and will probably perform better for me.

However, I can’t help seeing other options a lot less (<£500) which say they are pure sign wave, such as Hyundai but don’t want to make the same mistake again.

Hoping I can get some recommendations from others that work well with Victron. Connected to shore power for another few weeks so not urgent but it would be good to purchase soon and be ready.

TIA

Andrew

In general, it’s best to avoid inverter generators with the Multiplus - sudden loads can collapse the inverter output, and cause needless switching from the MP.
A good well regulated standard generator should be perfectly adequate. I have a 2500W unit that I use as backup, with battery charging regulated to about 950W to leave power for additional AC loads to switch on and off - water pump, freezer etc.
