External control does not default to idle (3.80~27)

Setup

  • Firmware: 3.80~27. The issue was also at ~25, but can’t track back further since it’s a new install
  • Multi RS Solar (5kWp PV) connected on L1 in a three-phase grid
  • Cerbo GX
  • ESS enabled
  • ESS mode = External Control
  • Self-constumption = All system loads
  • Feed-in allowed = yes
  • Gridcode = EN50549-10:2022

Issue

When the ESS mode is changed to “External Control” (ESS mode = 3) it does not go to idle (like Multiplus), instead it starts controlling grid setpoint at 0W. Even when the ESS grid setpoint is ‘null’ (see attachment).

This means when an external controller losses connection and the Multi RS stops receiving setpoints every minute it will drain the batteries completely.

Expected behavior

One could argue what idle means when there is also PV MPPT integrated, but I would at least expect the battery goes to idle (stop charging & discharging) and PV will continue to be delivered to the grid (like PV inverter). In case PV feed-in to the grid is not allowed / disabled it should also curtail / stop the PV inverter (which is already happening when charging + feed-in is disabled).
