EVCS stops working in automatic mode after firmware update from v1.27 to v2.08 – “Low SoC"

Hello,

I have a Victron installation consisting of:

* Cerbo GX
* Victron EV Charging Station
* Energy Meter ET112
* Fronius inverter integrated into the GX system
* No batteries installed

The system worked correctly with the previous version of the EV Charging Station (**v1.27**).

In that version, while in automatic mode, the charger displayed the status:

**“Waiting for sun”**

and when there was PV surplus (measured by the ET112), it would automatically start charging the vehicle.

After updating to version **v2.08**, the behavior changed:

* Automatic mode stopped initiating charging
* “Waiting for sun” no longer appears
* The status remains:

**“Low SoC”**

When I press **START in manual mode**, the vehicle charges correctly, so the system, communication, and hardware are functional.

The problem occurs only in automatic mode:

* I select Auto mode
* I press START
* The charger does not start and displays **“Low SoC”**

At that moment, there is solar surplus available (for example, over 2 kW being exported to the grid according to the ET112), but it is not being utilized.

I have performed the following tests:

* Restarted the Cerbo GX
* Restarted the EV Charging Station
* Disabled DVCC
* Fully reconfigured the EV Charging Station
* Checked battery/SoC parameters

I subsequently reverted to version **v1.27**, but the problem persists; it appears that a configuration parameter was changed or has persisted following the update.

The installation does not have batteries, so there should be no SoC value affecting operation. The following parameters appear in the EV Charging Station configuration:

* Start charging at backup battery SoC (%)
* Stop charging at backup battery SoC, if Off Grid (%)

However, they do not allow a setting of 0%, nor can I find a way to completely disable the SoC logic.

Before the issue arose, the behavior was:

**Waiting for sun → surplus available → automatic charging**

Now, the system seems to be blocking Auto mode due to a non-existent “Low SoC” condition.

Does anyone know which setting controls this SoC dependency or how to restore the previous behavior without a battery?

Thanks.

Hello, I have an off grid system with the charger but I think for your situation you would want to enable the “Backup battery emulation” setting in the “GX Device” part of the EV Charging Station settings.

As per Victron EV Charging station manual:

Backup battery emulation: If the system does not have a backup battery, enabling this option will emulate battery data on the EVCS side. This emulation allows charging to function in automatic mode, as battery data is required.”

Try that and then report back!

Thanks Forest Gecko. It worked and it’s now charging in automatic mode with the excess energy.

Great! I am glad it is working well in auto mode now :slightly_smiling_face:
