We just installed 4 MPPT250/100 on a boat. Upon start-up, Update and basic testing, 3 out of the 4 MPPT reported Error #66 Incompatible devices.
In summary: the error existed because more than one MPPT was set to Master. Below we explained how we managed to correct the issue.
They are connected via Ve.Can to the Cerbo GX. DVCC is enabled for this application. So in theory they are “Slave” to the GX device at least this was our understanding.
They are not connected via bluetooth(Smart Connect). they are no Smart Connect network on the boat.
The issue was that they were more than one “Master” MPPT in the network.
This is not something you set. The system is supposed to set it automatically. But because during the Installation we added /Deleted/ added the MPPT, the system managed to have more than one Master and did not seem to be able to self correct. I do not know of a Victron document that address this issue. We stumbled upon it.
For each MPPT In the “Networked operation” GX device section you can see the Status:
In this case this unit is marked as “Slave”. Other options we saw: “Stand alone” and “Master”.
They are no obvious way to change that status. The BMS control reset button does not seem to change that mode.
In our case 3 of the 4 unit were set to “Master”…
To change it we tricked the unit out of the network by changing their Device Instance ID . In the Ve.Can Device tab you can see the current Device Instance ID:
By default it should be 0. But in all cases, that number must be the same as the device instance ID of the Battery BMS. For 2 of the 3 units we temporarily changed them to 1. The units Network operation mode switched to Stand alone. Then revert back to Default Device ID 0. They switch to Slave mode.
Once we only had 1 maser all the errors disappeared.
If anyone knows of a better way to Force an MPPT network to self correct, please share…
