DSE 855 controller communication with Cerbo GX

We have a Perkins generator that we’ve connected the DSE 855 to the controller using the printer cable and then lan network to our switch.

Both the DSE 855 and Cerbo GX are the in same network. DSE at 192.168.0.100 and Cerbo GX at 192.168.0.10; 255:255:255:0 192.168.0.1

We’ve set the Modbus/TCPIP on automatic searching but it doesn’t detect the DSE 855. What could be the problem.

Controller Info:
Model: 7320
Version: 12.0

DSE Info: (Default/Factory Version)
WebConfig Port: 80
Modbus TCP Port: 502
Model 855
Gateway ID: 1422D29DC40
Software Version: 1.2.3
Modbus Description Version: 1.0.93
Bootloader version: 1.0.3

We tried to update the DSE 855 to latest version it stopped reading any data in the SCADA section.

In the Cerbo GX manual it says once you connect the DSE and the GX in the same network they should communicate and you’ll see it in the Modbus as available devices but it doesn’t

Please help.

Is the ‘Modbus TCP’ service activated under ‘Services’?

Hi, that is not related to digital read-out of a genset.

Instead, that setting enables read-out & control of GX data over Modbus-TCP.

The DSE 855 is not listed as compatible. See here:

Hi Matthijs,

Isn’t DSE855 the Ethernet module for all DSE Controllers that are Victron Compatible? (At least according to the document 20241212_Victron_Supported_Gen-sets_DRAFT.pdf which may not yet be publicly available).

I ask this because I’m in the process of ordering a DSE855 for a generator with the DSE7310 MKII.

Send me a PM if you need me to send you the document.

Then what is this my friend. Can we get expert advice plz.

Hey bro. My deep sea is 7320 which I don’t see in the list. The one you have is on the list. When you do get it do let me know if it works out so then I can purchase the same deep sea.

Yes my dear

Hi, you are right. The DSE855 is indeed an ethernet interface. I’ll have to find out more and get back to you

Dear @NahidValli,

the setup of the DSE855 looks fine, indeed the DSE855 USB-to-Ethernet module can, as far as I’m aware, basically be used with any DSE controller to add Modbus TCP support to it.

The important thing is, that still the DSE controller itself must be supported by our software. And the DSE7320 (first generation) controller is not yet. But the good news: It can be added and can help you with that. I will reach out to you by email, so we can arrange a test.

Best regards

Here’s an update on this topic: Support for DSE 7320 is on the way, thanks for the help @NahidValli!

It will soon appear in the Venus OS Beta changelog and, after further feedback from our beta testers, will officially be released with one of the next Venus OS release versions.
