Cerbo GX not connecting with Dyness Powerbox G2

Hi All,

I’m building a configuration existing from a CerboGX, MultiplusII 48V/5000 and a Dyness Powerbox G2. I followed the manuals and I’m trying to connect the G2 to the Cerbo. It took already several days, but unfortunately its unsuccessful.

I created a cable
For Cerbo side I used the pinout:
pin3 - GND
pin7 - CAN-H
pin8 - CAN-L

For the Dyness G2 I used the pinout:
Pin4 - CAN-H
pin5 - CAN-L

As mentioned in the manual of the G2, the dip switch configuration is 0000. The Cerbo is configured as CAN BUS LV 500Kb/sec.

While debugging and finding the problem I terminated the can bus several times in several combinations. This didn’t affect the behavior. I also tried to enable a dip switch. When done, the can bus receives a lot of errors.

Questions:

  • Is there a way to troubleshoot the CAN interface?
  • What is the difference betwen CAN BUS LV/HV?
  • Do you have a way to nail this issue or point me in a direction?

Thnx in advance

Hi,

I can confirm a working Dyness Powerbox GX.

Please make sure to make the cable as mentioned in the following topic.

The switch adress should be 0000.

I had also some trouble getting the setup working but after creating the correct cable it worked perfectly!

Hi,

Yes, i can confirm that all components are working. I had a chat with the support people from Dyness, which was very helpfull. Changing the CAN connection cable and changing the dipswitches, did the trick. I tried to connect with dipswitch setting 0000, but I am unable to get this working. For me the dipstwichsetting 1100 is working.

Hi sjtuupke,
I also want a Powerbox G2 (3pcs) with my 3 phase Victron 48/5000 system. According to the manual, victron should be compatible and leave the dip switch at 0000, that’s what it says directly in the manual. So is it necessary to change this to 1100 on the main battery? and then do I need to use a special cable? The manual states that if a compatible inverter such as Victron is used, nothing needs to be changed. So what should I prepare please? The PIN sequence is standard RJ-45, so I thought that if I use a standard inverter (victron) this will not need to be changed. How is it then?

Hello, please what cable thickness is included with Dyness powerbox G2 ? In manual, there is information about 35mm2 but from dyness support I got answer that there are 50mm2 (+ -) battery cables included inbox. So please for you what was included? thank you.

Hi Baahuball,

For me the dipwitch setting 1100 worked @ the master 0000 didn’t . I think you can play arround with this setting. Be aware to restart the battery after a dipswitch change.

Regarding the cable connect the cables:
Victron ↔ G2 side
Blue (4) ↔ Brown/white (7)
Blue/White (5) ↔ Brown (8)

You can use this cable just in one way…

Regarding the cable. I received a 50mm2 cable set.

I chatted a lot with a technical person @Dyness. He sent me a configuration which I applied and is working. (see attachment)
Dyness DL5.0C battery and Victron Multiplus 48-5000-70 Setup (start&shut down) .pdf (791.2 KB)

If you are using the ESS, you need some parameters to configure the MultiPlus.

  1. Sustain Voltage: 48V
  2. Dynamic Cut-off Voltage (approximate values):
    0.005C (~1A): ≈ 44.5V
    0.25C (50A): ≈ 44V
    0.7C (140A): ≈ 42.5V
    2C (400A): ≈ 40V
  3. Restart Offset Voltage: >46.5V

Good luck

Thank you very much, this would be helpful when I will be installing it.
And beside this, how are you satisfied with Powerbox G2? There are not personal information/reviews on internet because this is quite new battery but it looks very good with good parameters.

And about ESS parameters you provided, so parameters that are in manual are ok to use? because there is difference between Restart voltage, you provided >46.5 and in manual is this value 52V. So is ok to use this in manual but in ESS i will use parameters you posted right?

And one more thing, do you see “heating function” settings in cerbo or only in Dyness aplication? Dyness has its own application and are there any information about battery that are not visible elsewhere, only with this app?
For me this are very valuable information from somebody with experience with Victron and this G2 battery. Thank you

I used the settings which are provided to me from an Dyness engineer. The values I post and the values in the manual are different. I used the values from the engineer, knowing that they are lower as specified in the manual.
