[DESS HACK] Unexpected Bat2Grid and Solar-Feedin. (Green Mode)

@dognose I do understand your point.
But I live in Germany and there are no best selling prices possible
I use green mode only, because bat2grid is not allowed.
Even prices are high if there is no good amount of sun during daytime.
If sun is ok I do not need to load bat from grid.

Different to @nuxland :
On my site there is always the same problem in the morning.
DESS calculated that at 0800 min SOC (15%) is ok because of sun kicking in.
But sun does not kick in as good as predicted because of fog.
(Sun and consumption forcast cannot be changed)
So byuing prices are at highest point at 0800 and because of SOC min reached, I have to buy energy from grid at highest price.
If DESS had a min DESS SOC, DESS would stopp discharging at night at lower buying rates overnight to reach 15%+15% SOC at 0800.
Then it had 15% left for discharging at 0800 onwards.

I always have to adjust manualy to avoid such behavior.

DESS max SOC is on my site not that big problem, but would work according the same logic.
From my point of view two additional thresholds would solve a lot of different topics.
And if set to 0, everything would be stock.

Actually system has DESS minimum SOC but it is not used enywhere :frowning:

And there are different values in my system, but still DESS is discharging to regular ESS Min SOC

Chance you are using betas from time to time?

There was a beta having this setting once. But mever made it into production.

And settings are obviously persisted, so not removed, when upgrading the version.

Hence that setting on your device was probably created by a certain (beta-) version, but is actually no longer existing. It’s an “orphan”, we devs say :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’d have to read it carefully now. But the DESS min Soc was already part of the development. That was some time ago and caused problems. I tried to explain it above with a few examples. You must always keep in mind that Victron isn’t developing the DESS just for your own needs, but for many countries and configurations.

A great example why selling to MIN SOC is not good.
Here is DESS prediction (it thinks that tomorrow is a good enought of PV)

But actually yrno and solcast show different story :frowning:

And tomorrows prices are high starting from morning

If DESS could only sell to different (not implemented right now) min soc (in my case 30%) and not to ESS min soc (15%) then tomorrows WRONG PV forecast would not affect my system. But now if I allow it to sell, I would have to buy with high prices:(

With the official Release of 3.60, the “Hack” is no longer required.
I’ll leave the repositories up for a while, for those still running on 3.55 or older.

But since this is a thread about a (discontinued) User-Modification not generally about DESS-Functionality, I’m going to close it now
