DESS Feed into the Grid Instead of Battery

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with my Victron DESS setup and hope someone can provide guidance or insights. At the moment, DESS seems to prioritize exporting excess PV energy to the grid over charging my battery. This appears to happen because it forecasts a lower State of Charge (SOC) than would be reached if it were to store the energy in the battery. As a result, the system is making decisions that don’t make financial sense – selling energy at 8 cents per unit only to buy it back later at 40 cents.

This behavior is frustrating, as it effectively nullifies the benefit of the system. I’m currently using the Victron implementation, but I’d be open to switching to a Node-RED solution if it allows for better control or optimization of this logic.

Does anyone have experience with this or know how to adjust the configuration to ensure the battery is prioritized over grid export in these situations? I’ve attached some screenshots for context, and my VRM portal ID is: c0619ab2f9c0.

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I see you are on Green Mode.

Many thanks! It seems to be working so far. I wonder why Victron hasn’t implemented this as a standard feature, considering it’s such a basic and expected behavior. It’s surprising that we need a “hack” to address it.
