I am building a system with 4 AGM batteries in parallel (1200 ah) The four batteries connect to a Lynx Distributor so each are fused. From there to a Lynx Smart Shunt and then to another Distributor for fused outputs to inverter etc. Additionally I am installing Balmar XM 250 amp alternators (one on each engine) and each will be controlled with a wakespeed 500. The two WS500 and smart shunt will connect to a Cerbo
The WS500 wants input from a shunt on the battery. I am trying to determine if that data can be shared across the Ve Can connection particularly with the latest OS update for RV-c.
I originally ran my WS500 on my boat charging AGM batteries before I swapped to Victron Lithium batteries with a Lynx BMS. When I had the AGMs on board it was very easy to set the system up to get the battery current and temperature from the SmartShunt via the Cerbo GX. You need to read the “Communications and Programming Guide” from Wakespeed.
On the WS500 you will need to set it up with CAN Options as follows
Baud rate - Default 250kbps
Enable RV-C subsystem - Yes
Enable Alternative CAN / BMS Protocol - select “Victron SmartShunt (Requires Cerbo)
Enable NMEA2000 CAN subsystem - Yes
Leave items I have not listed as default.
The WS500 will then pick up battery temperature and current. You still nee voltage sensing on the WS500 voltage sensing wires. Do not forget that if you want to have the alternator current displayed on the Cerbo then you will need to have shunts in the alternator output, which is easy if you have isolated negative, but are usually placed into the positive (with fuses) if not. These just need to be dumb shunts for the WS500 current sense wires. There may be some extra bits about setting up dual alternators. There is a good Facebook group for the WS500.
