Connect Orion to 12v battery in eSprinter

Hi,

I am looking to connect the Orion up to the 12v battery in my Mercedes Electric Sprinter van. Does anyone have any experience of this or similar. Are there any special considerations ?

That could be tricky since it doesn’t use an alternator to charge the battery. Looks like 12V is charged with a converter using the 400V battery system. It only charges when the computer determines it needs it. If there isn’t a constant voltage to supply the Orion it wont work.

A simple test would be to monitor the voltage at the 12V battery while the van is running to see if it puts out consistent voltage suitable for the Orion.

Hi yes I will test it to see the behaviour.

I found the attached information.

So it looks like the E36 relay is just an isolator. The Orion should be able to take its place. Knowing how difficult getting a “smart” alternator to work with an Orion I would definitely establish that you have reliable voltage before moving forward.

It may be more straightforward if the factory fitted DC to DC converter puts out a nice steady voltage when the vehicle is switched on…..

I’ll be very interested to hear what you come up with.
