Charger for Lynx BSM NG on the Boat

Hello, could you recommend a charger for Lynx BSM NG with Lithium 12.8V 200Ah NG. This is a charger for a boat with this system. Thank you

@MarekVictron1221 I am guessing if the system is for a boat maybe the boat has an alternator. In that case the easiest way to charge the batteries is to use a Orion XS1400 on the output of the Alternator. If the boat has the space consider having some solar panels through a Victron MPPT charger to charge the batteries. If you need to plug into the wharf you may consider installing a Multiplus inverter/ charger. All of these solution can “listen” to the battereis through the DVCC function on a CerboGX ensuring the charging sources provide the best charging current level for the batteries.

Hi, thank you for the very good description of the Lynx BMS NG charging options. Yes, I have an alternator connected to an Orion XS 50 and an MPPT 100/20 to a solar panel. I didn’t want to install a Multiplus on board, I found it unnecessarily complicated. I was looking for a Victron charger specifically designed for charging the Lynx BMS NG from the mains. Preferably one that communicates directly with the Lynx BMS NG.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply

I am not sure that there is an ac charger that is fully compliant with DVCC charge control assuming you have a GX device. For example, the IP43 has VE Direct connection for monitoring by the GX device but no DVCC control from the GX device. You need to choose a charger that has a remote on/off port so you can turn it on and off by the BMS ATC rather than relying on the contactor for safety, which should be a last resort disconnect.

A multiplus 1200 will charge 12V batteries at 50A and does not cost much more than a 12V 50A IP43 and has VE Bus comms and full control by DVCC from the BMS / GX device. You do not have to wire in ac output and can run it in charger only mode. The install is then little different to an ac charger.

Hi, I found a charger that might suit my needs. It’s the Smart IP43 Charger 120-240V. I think it’s suitable for this use. Could you please review it?

Thank you

I made comments about the IP43 above, it is not listed as DVCC compatible in the Cerbo GX manual, therefore it will not coordinate with the BMS, it will run its own charging algorithm independently and the remote on/off will need to be wired to the ATC contacts to make sure it shuts down when charging needs to stop for battery protection reasons.

A small Multiplus run in charger only mode would be under full BMS control.
