Cerbo GX serial no. HQ2207 or earlier - updated UI 3.50 bluetooth functions for Ruuvi

Doh!

Homer_Doh-4154519347

Ouch, not sure how I recover from such a silly mistake!

Thanks for pointing this out!

I am noticing that I have to sign out from my VRM page and sign back in again to see the ruuvi tags on the Remote Console even when they are showing on the GX Display. I noticed this pattern yesterday. The ruuvi tags were not showing on the VRM: Remote Console in the evening, even tho they were showing earlier in the day. Singing out and back in again fixed this.

I don’t know if this information helps or not. I am not doing rigorous bug testing…

Hey Bill, thank you for all the feedback. Meanwhile we’re on to something (s).

With regards to signing out: I expect that refeshing/reloading the page (F5) has tge same result.

Hello Matthijs,

I will try a refresh next time when/if I notice the problem with see the ruuvi tags in the Remote Console I/O page. Thanks for the tip!

Related but maybe not.
I have had my Ruuvi tags reporting temp alarms as it should to my email inbox, BUT they are only in Celsius and not Fahrenheit as all my other pages in the VRM portal are indicating.
These emails are the ONLY place that is reporting Celsius. Where can I change the format of the emails or where the source data is???

Thanks,
Kurt

You could try

Remote Consol>Settings>Display and Language>Units
Or you might have to do it in the Ruuvi app.
EDIT
Yes it’s in the Ruuvi app under app settings>Temperature unit

I set that up when I first installed them.

Hi both,

Thanks for reporting!

Those alarm emails unfortunately can’t be formatted from Celsius vs Fahrenheit.

There is no immediate straight forward fix either, due to the way that their generation has been set up.

This is going to take quite a while before it is changed.

All the best, Matthijs

Thank you for the update. At least I know I’m not chasing a unicorn now.

Just to ensure I’m not wasting money, I have a Venus GX, but there’s no Bluetooth section in my Venus OS settings.
If I purchase a compatible Bluetooth adapter, will it appear in the Settings menu?

I recall a previous forum discussion about these adapters and the Venus GX, where it was mentioned that Bluetooth needs to be disabled for the dongle to be recognized. However, I don’t see any Bluetooth option to disable.

For reference, I’m running Venus GX with firmware version 3.31.

I understand emails notifications are fixed to Celsius. However, can push notifications be done in Fahrenheit? Or is it the same “back end” that is doing the notifications. Thanks. Ian

Hi @CCB,
That should be fine to buy one of the bluetooth adapters listed in the manual.
Don’t worry about the need to disable anything if you don’t see the option.

Hi Everyone,
I have a Cerbo GX with a build HQ2149 There were Ruuvi attached to the system They all stopped being seen by the Cerbo 4 weeks ago. I have updated the software on the Cerbo to 3.62 It looks like I now need to buy an external BT adapter. I am sailing at the moment so don’t have a viable address. Would a interim work around of installing a earlier software work? I note that 3.60 is still on my system but I think an earlier software build will be necessary. Is it possible or advisable to do this? Many thanks in advance

You have an older Cerbo from before early 2022, serial number up to HQ2207. Those devices don’t have proper working Bluetooth.

From the manual:

Note for Cerbo GX units built up to and including serial number HQ2207; The built-in Bluetooth connection is disabled when the internal CPU temperature exceeds 53 degrees C (influenced by load and/or ambient temperature). For reliable operation it is necessary to use a USB Bluetooth adapter. Devices manufactured later (HQ2208 and later) do not require an additional USB Bluetooth adapter.

Beta testers reported success with the TP Link UB500. I use the older UB400, now superseded.

Above was copied and pasted from previous answers I have given, you already know much of this but I have left it in place in case someone else finds this.

It might be that reverting to the older firmware makes the bluetooth work again, but next time the ambient temperature rises it will fail again. Really the only solution to have Bluetooth reliable on Cerbo GX with serial numbers up to and including HQ2207 is to install a USB Bluetooth dongle.

Thank you for your detailed reply. Whilst trouble shooting I have noticed the blue tooth light on the Cerbo GX is not illuminated. Is this consistent with the early models and updated software? Will a blue tooth dongle bypass this and allow Ruuvi communication? Maybe totally unrelated but I have never been able to use the wifi access point. This of course is when the Cerbo GX is connected to wifi. This issue of course could be my finger trouble.

Kind regards,

Stuart Birdsall

Bluetooth light will be off if the Bluetooth module is turned off, either by settings or overheating. Bluetooth dongle will bypass this. I have no idea regarding access point, never used that function.
