There’s news on the hardware front. We’ve gathered the first details about the next Cerbo GX and wanted to share them briefly with you, in case anyone is currently planning a new purchase. The initial preliminary information points to a release in Q4 2026.
The key points:
Identical connections to the MK2
More CPU power (presumably quad-core)
Much smoother operation with Node-RED & Shellys thanks to the additional performance
Release
Does anyone have any further information they’d like to share with us?
The primary focus is on the exchange of information; this should also have been sufficiently demonstrated in other topics. Those who know us/me know that I have good connections to reliable sources. @M_Lange, if this is considered advertising, please remove the link! Or feel free to amend the text; no one here has called on anyone to buy anything!
I see it the same way as Matthias: the additional power is the decisive factor for me. I’m pleased that Victron has listened to the community’s feedback and is now delivering significantly more power. Especially because Node-RED offers increasingly complex possibilities, I believe this is becoming more and more important.
Because of the cost and the connections that are missing in some cases compared with the MK2, the Ekrano is often not a genuine alternative – particularly given its price. So, for me, the MK3 is finally the upgrade I wanted, which I had already hoped for back when I switched from the MK1 to the MK2.
By now, the price and more precise details are known, and ordering is already possible as well. Especially given the price, I think the link from back then would have been appropriate, but let’s leave that aside.
Performance overview & connections:
No changes to the connections (same as the MK2)
More CPU power (4× Cortex-A53 @ 1.4 GHz)
64-bit architecture
1 GB DDR4 RAM vs. (1 GB DDR3 in the MK2)
Better suited to Node-RED & Shelly (due to the increased processing power)
Anyone can compare for themselves using the official list price
Or you could simply state your price.
If I remember correctly, the list price will be around €50–60 higher.
After the usual discounts, that will probably mean around €30–40 more than the MK2 on the open market.
So both will continue to be available in parallel.
The MK3 is specifically designed for systems with a great many components and complex NodeRed scripts or Modbus/MQTT controls.
For most standard systems, the MK2 will still be perfectly adequate.
How about we leave it to Victron to make the necessary announcements, when there is general availability and stock exists in most regions. Our guidelines are quite clear about pre-announcements, roadmaps and the like.
For the vast majority of users, especially those planning upgrades from ccgx, venus etc, the mk2 is perfectly suited to the job.
The community is not for advertising, something that will be treated as spam.
Thank you for the offer, but I don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression here, so I’ll decline. Suffice it to say that your estimate is roughly correct.
I think it’s good that both will exist in parallel. At the time, I honestly found the Cerbo GX S unnecessary, as the MK1 and MK2 were already not exactly fast, and bringing out another low-budget variant never convinced me, at least not personally. But we also tend to work on systems where the small price difference doesn’t really matter.
I find the MK3 very exciting. I had already wished for it at several training sessions, as the Ekrano was, in turn, an overly expensive alternative that also came with missing ports in some cases. So the MK3 is exactly what I was hoping for, and I’m very much looking forward to having one personally and in our warehouse soon.
@nickdb I never intended to do that, so I’m not sure I understand your point.
Again, this is a forum for exchange, including technical topics and news. If we receive relevant news, I think it is perfectly reasonable to share it. Some people appreciate having an active community where members are enthusiastic about new products, developments, and announcements.
I have never pretended to represent Victron. I simply shared news and information that I received from my sources or from our own sources. That’s all there was to it.
I have received a Cerbo GX MK3 now. I was trying to verify if it is really MK3 before actually connecting it. However, I could not find any label with MK3, neither at the casing nor at the box it was delivered in. Does anybody know if one can recognize ‘MK3’ from the outside?
