Is there any way to data from Bluetooth smart devices in to the central component (Cerbo GX) ?
I just desire a trivial values like dcdc input voltages and power, perhaps input ac voltages from chargers and what not
Has Victron made an Engineering blunder or do they have a fix coming up? I know that the Cerbo might not be able to act like a ble client and server at the same time, but then a small dongle or whatnot could be added to the Cerbo to hook up to the smart devices.
I’m not sure I’d say it’s a blunder; it’s simply not one of the design features of the Cerbo. The Cerbo, being designed as a high-level monitoring and control solution for large systems, requires stable connection to the components it’s monitoring, which bluetooth can’t really offer.
Have you considered, if you only need trivial values, just having a cheap dedicated phone with VictronConnect open?
Bluetooth can be convenient, but it’s inherently less reliable because it’s prone to interference, signal dropouts, and limited bandwidth. That makes it fine for basic monitoring, but not ideal for control systems or transferring larger amounts of data.
When you hardwire a system (like using a Cerbo GX), you get a stable, consistent connection with no interference issues. That reliability is critical, especially for control and system integration where you don’t want delays or unexpected disconnections.
So while Bluetooth is great for quick setup or casual monitoring, wired connections are still the best choice for anything that needs to be dependable and robust. So not an engineering blunder, but a deliberate choice based on experience and knowlege.
I perfectly well understand the BLE limitations, but for casual “making data visible” in the GX then it should be fairly trivial to do and and a small icon when a device is lagging data (dropout etc.)
Having so many small devices then can’t be visualized in visualized just seems like an obvious omission.
Not an omission. It is intentional based on experience.
If Bluetooth is preferred then that is what smart networking is for but the role of the GX is too critical for bluetooth.
Once on the LAN you can access all the data via IP anyway.
Bluetooth will remain as an option for third party sensors which are not critical.
