Can't connect Motorola Edge 50 Pro to MPPT via VictronConnect

Hi. I’ve used my SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 for a few years now with no problem connecting through VictronConnect on a number of Android phones. I’ve just got a new phone (Moto Edge 50 Pro, running Android 15 and VictronConnect Version 6.19) and while it can see my MPPT fine, it won’t let me connect and never pops up a dialog to enter the password, nor has any notification in the notifications bar. I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the manual a number of times resetting everything, deleting and reinstalling, removing all bluetooth connections etc. I then tried an old phone to confirm that it isn’t the MPPT, but is something to do with VictronConnect when running on the Moto Edge 50 Pro.

I’ve finally worked out that while android hasn’t blocked notifications for VictronConnect, for some reason the app itself on the Moto Edge won’t let me turn notifications on in the first place. The option to turn them on is greyed out, and it says “This app does not send notifications”. See the difference between the two phones below. The first image is of the phone that won’t connect, the second image is the phone that will connect. I’m assuming this is behind my inability to connect. Any idea on how to resolve this please?

VictronConnect on the Moto Edge. Won’t connect. Notifications greyed out so can’t turn on.

I have an Itel phone, with a similar problem.

Ve connect does not raise the dialogue box to enter the pin code.

The workarround for this is to open the settings>Bluetooth, find the victron device in the ‘available Bluetooth devices’ list, request to pair, and then enter the pin code from that menu. Bluetooth will then need to be turned off, then back on again to disconnect from the device. It will then open normally in VE connect.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve tried this and it doesn’t connect this way either. Looks like Android 15 does funny things to bluetooth on Motorola Phones so the problem may lie here, rather than with the Victron app. I’ll keep trying anything I can think of and pop back here if I’m successful, but no joy so far!

You wouldn’t happen to have an app called “TopDon TopScan” or something like that, would you?

There are a few apps that have a nasty habit of aggressively “hooking” the BT pairing process, and that app is on the list. Have a look here, where a couple of the problem apps have been called out: Victron Connect Pairing Issue (Android 15) - #62 by RoarPowerNZ

Unfortunately not. And I’d checked all my apps to see if there could be something that might be scanning for Bluetooth, but saw nothing likely.

About 5 minutes ago I did a complete factory reset of the phone (with a completely clean install, not from a backup), and tried with VictronConnect the first app installed and the problem is still there so it can’t be from another app interfering, or from any “remnant” bluetooth settings. Not sure there’s much else to try at this stage!

Tried again today and it still isn’t allowing me to connect. Here’s a system log in case it sheds light on anything.

I thought I should update this in case anyone else is looking. Victron have confirmed that my phone, Motorola Edge 50 Pro, won’t work with the VictronConnect app. (Same problem with my Lenovo Duet Chromebook.) So thanks to the Victron techs for the help with troubleshooting, but a shame for the outcome!

There is an odd interaction with some apps and the Bluetooth pairing on android 15.
So potentially it is another app on the newer os causing the issue of the pairing dialogue not appearing. I have seen a few discussions now. As was linked above there are a few mentioned
