Can the Smart BatteryProtect remote on/off switch turn the battery back on, for emergency use?

Can the Smart BatteryProtect remote on/off switch turn the battery back on, for emergency use?

I’m going to use Smart BatteryProtect between my batteries and house load.

I need to be able to override the BatteryProtect, if it has turned off my house load. In my boat, I would want to be able to use my VHF radio for an emergency call, if necessary. Is this what the switch can do? The manual seems vague. It says “This switch can be used, for example, to turn the system remotely on and off.”

Can the Smart BatteryProtect also be overridden using the App, if necessary?

Thanks in advance.

If you are not using it in lithium mode then

  1. If the remote switch is off, the device is off and the load is disconnected.
  2. If the remote switch is on, the device is on and yhe load is on or off based on the voltage.
  3. In this scenario the remote switch will not repower the loads.

If you are using it in lithium mode from a BMS ATD (allow to discharge) switch then you can add a parallel on/off switch which will reconnect the load even if the BMS wants it off.

The VicttonConnect app has a switch on it, I have no idea if this over rides the voltage on/off. I am not testing it on my live system to find out.

You could wire VHF separately to the battery or with its own battery protect at a lower voltage.

Thank you pwfarnell. I am not using it in lithium mode. I’ll have two flooded 6V deep cycle batteries in series @ 12v. I’ll probably wire the VHF separately, like you suggested. Good idea. Thanks,

Duh. I actually figured out a simple solution, if I have the emergency situation I described above. First, I think it is a design oversight, for Victron to not have an override switch function. BlueSea has an override switch in their similar device " m-LVD Low Voltage Disconnect" but it is only rated for 60 Amps, and I needed more, so I went with Victron.

My solution, I would just switch my battery switch from “on” to “combine batteries” (both). This will share the starting battery to the house loads, and accomplish my power for emergency VHF rescue call.
