I have a Master and a slave 5000W Multiplus in parallel. I received very little info from the unhelpful and lazy installer and no wiring diagram so have been gleaning info where I can. I have been told elsewhere that I need to run both Multipluses at the same time and can’t run just the master alone. The reason to turn the slave off for me is to reduce unnecessary passive load when the boat is idle. Also it would be good to know the implications should one fail. I am assuming in the failure case I would need to reconfigure via VE configure but not sure what wiring changes would be necessary then if any.
Nope. They are one unit, power one off and the other stops as well. It needs to be reconfigured to be standalone.
The parallel manual and training are quite helpful for info like this (all free and online).
As @nickdb already said: no, you can’t turn one off and keep the other running.
A parallel system of X units behaves as one large single unit.
The only way to achieve what you want would be to connect both units in series and have the first one idling when low loads and power up to assist when load increases.
Mind you: as far as I know this is unsupported and will certainly require advanced config hackery to make sure nothing blows up.
Indeed, entirely unsupported, so we try not to encourage that sort of thing.
There are many creative solutions running in the field that are unsupported, but you really do need to know your stuff and be fully aware of the risks and limitations.
Thanks Bart and Nick for the quick and clear responses. I’ll have a search for the parallel training to edumcate myself further as to why it is so.
