Bug: GUI V1 empty and GUI V2 black on Cerbo GX & Raspberry Pi since Venus OS 3.60–3.64

I would like to report a reproducible issue that affects both Cerbo GX (Einstein) and Raspberry Pi GX installations since Venus OS ~3.60 (definitely in 3.64).

Problem description

On both Cerbo GX and Raspberry Pi systems running Venus OS 3.64:

    • GUI V1: only shows empty frames, no content.

    • GUI V2: screen remains black, sometimes only “Advanced” is visible.

  • As a result, the device becomes unusable for configuration or setup.

  • This was reproduced on three independent devices:

    1. Cerbo GX #1 (no auto-update, no SSH) → completely unusable.

    2. Cerbo GX #2 (auto-update enabled) → same problem, awaiting a fix in future release.

    3. Raspberry Pi with Venus OS 3.64 → same problem.

Workaround

  • Downgrading to Venus OS 3.55 via SD card reinstall immediately restores both GUI V1 and GUI V2 functionality.

  • This confirms the issue is firmware related, not hardware related.

Severity

  • For existing, already-configured systems the bug may remain unnoticed, since the devices keep running normally — the limitation is that settings can no longer be changed.

  • For new devices / first installation this problem is critical: initial setup is impossible with Venus OS 3.64.

Request

  • Can Victron Engineering please confirm whether this bug is already tracked internally?

  • Is there a planned fix in Venus OS 3.65 or a later release?

Thank you for your support and for confirming.

Best regards, Matthias.

Are you running any third party mods ?

I have a Cerbo and RPI and neither are experiencing these issues on v3.64 or v3.70 beta versions.

One of the 2 cerbos is brand new from the factory. Nothing installed yet. Only updated to newest firmware and it was basically unusable until I downgraded again (that’s why it’s such an issue).

the other cerbo is also running only stock firmware, on the raspi I installed DBus serial battery, but removed it again. No difference. Only a downgraded helped there as well.
