I just bought a new Orion-Tr Smart 12-12 30 and it smells like burnt electronics fresh out of the box. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about?
@DMellott that would concern me. I haven’t experienced that with any Victron equipment.
I noticed this with a distributor and lynx shunt this year. Think it’s the type of plastic or recycled plastic on the casings making that bad smell.
First off did the box have any security tags/tape on or did it look like it had been opened?
Then examining the unit, does it look like it’s been used?
Could all be ok but better to be safe than sorry.

Did you try to use it? The charger I just received smells burnt also, I purchased it from an Amazon retailer (Half Million) and it is missing the jumper connector. however, it doesn’t appear that it’s been used
It sat around for a few weeks before I got around to doing the install. The unit is working fine and I don’t notice the smell anymore and I’m wondering if it was just that the epoxy they use kinda smells like burnt electronics.
