I have a BMV-712 using the temperature sensor to battery positive. I’ve added a Multiplus II 12v/3000 to the system which has it’s own isolated temperature sensor that is supposed to go on the battery negative. Both the Multiplus and BMV are sharing data in the same VE smart network.
I’m curious if I should install this Multiplus sensor in addition to the BMV sensor, install it and remove the BMV sensor, or not install the Multiplus sensor. Is there a preferred way to set this up? Pluses or minuses here?
The MultiPlus itself doesn’t have bluetooth; if you’ve added a VE.Bus Smart Dongle to the MultiPlus to add a small degree of BT functionality, then per the user and installation manual for the VE.Bus Smart Dongle, it’s to be installed (stuck to) directly on the battery, so acquires its temperature that way, and you don’t need to install the MultiPlus wired temperature sensor.
On the upside, the MultiPlus wired temperature sensor can be used on a GX device if you have one on the system, and doesn’t require the lug end of it to be installed at all, it can literally dangle in the air if you want an ambient temperature reading, or can be bolted or stuck to anything at all that you’d like a temperature reading from.
Spot on, I have installed a smart dongle on the multiplus, which explains where it’s getting the temperature reading I see on victron connect. I had just assumed it was an internal sensor to the multiplus, good to know it’s coming from the smart dongle.
So with that in mind then, if I were to install the temp sensor on thee multiplus, would it display both temperatures? which of the two would take priority and control the temperature compensation? (I assume the sensor attached to the BMV would not take priority)
