So we just installed two Orion XS 12-12 50A chargers in my boat. I have twin outboars so I have two lead acid cranking batteries, one for each engine and two 140ah LiTime lithium batteries. The lithium batteries are in parallel. Even though the batteries are in parallel when all the electronics are being used the discharge at a different rate. Not a huge difference but a little bit. The other day we were testing so we ran all the electronics for an hour or so and then turned the boat on and let the Orions charge the batteries. The lithiums both went in to overcharge protection mode. I’m trying to figure out how to configure the settings so this doesn’t happen. Could anyone help me with the settings on these Orions?
What does the datasheet of the batteries say about max. charging current?
Try to reduce the charging current of the Orion a bit.
The Orions were set at 35.0A and the batteries recommend 28.0A current. So I just changed those parameters. So the max input and output current is set at 28 now.
