So I just installed two DC-DC chargers on my boat. I have two lead acid starting batteries and two lithium house batteries. I have a four bank onboard charger that I plug in at the end of the day to charge all the batteries. This onboard charger you can select the type of battery chemistry on each bank. What’s happening is when I plug this charger in the Orions kick on because it detects the charge and thinks the alternator is running. Is there any way to disable this so at the dock when I plug the boat in the Orions don’t kick on? And do you think this is bad? I mean seems like the lithiums will charge first and then the two cranking batteries after in this situation with the Orions on.
If you’re concerned about it, you can switch them off via the remote bridge - either by wiring a switch to interrupt continuity between the pins, or just by unplugging the remote bridge entirely.
Personally I don’t see an issue with it, you’re correct that the LFP batteries would charge first, but then when they’re full the starter batteries would be topped off, and that would leave you with 4 full batteries which sort of sounds like a win-win to me, but that’s up to you. Easy enough to just pull the two remote bridges when you plug in, if you’d prefer.
Thanks for the response! I will leave it as is and see how it goes. Sorry I’m a newbie to these but what are the remote bridges that I would pull when I plug in? The obviously I would have to plug those remote bridges in when I unplug the boat and go use it
I don’t know which model you have to refer you to the correct user and installation manual, but it’s shown here: 4. Installation
