Assistance Needed – Victron Orion 12/12-30A Not Staying in Bulk Mode

Dear [Support Team/Victron Specialist],

I am experiencing an issue with my Victron Orion 12/12-30A DC-DC charger when connected to my vehicle’s battery. The charger does not remain in Bulk mode for more than two minutes, regardless of whether the auxiliary batteries are fully charged or discharged.

Current Setup:

  • Vehicle alternator: 120A (smart alternator)
  • Starter battery: Lead-acid 95Ah
  • Auxiliary batteries: [3 LIFEPO4 x 100 ah ]
  • Victron Orion units: Two 12/12-30A chargers in parallel

Issue:

  • When the engine is running, the Victron Orion enters Bulk mode but switches out of it after approximately two minutes.
  • This happens regardless of the state of charge of the auxiliary batteries.
  • The alternator is intelligent (smart alternator) and may be affecting the charging process.

Questions:

  1. How should I properly connect the Victron Orion to the vehicle’s battery to ensure continuous charging?
  2. Is there a specific setting I need to change in VictronConnect to keep it in Bulk mode longer?
  3. Should I use a D+ signal, BatteryProtect, or another solution to manage the charging process with a smart alternator?

I would appreciate any guidance, including wiring diagrams or configuration tips to optimize my setup.

Best regards,

Edson Gomes Barbosa

Please add some screenshots (overview while the engine is running, settings).
Can you confirm that the lithium batteries are getting charged?

And settings of the chargers please…

50% wrong settings
50% wire losses.

Take you pick.

Good morning, sorry for the delay, we are changing the wire that goes from the alternator to the Victron to 50mm.
After replacing the wires, the 2 Victrons in parallel are sending 58ah to the batteries.

We are now monitoring the charging stages.
