Hello,
I am looking to replace my RVs Ective LC 100 BT LiFePo4 with an Victron Smart LiFePO4 12,8V 200Ah.
I also have a mobile solar system incl a Victron MPPT 75/15 tied to my current Ective.
I realized that I have to add mandatory a BMS, looking for the cheapest option at this point: “Victron smallBMS”
The smallBMS manual gives me already a nice starting point for the wiring plan, which is compared to my current one quite overwhelming given that I actually only want to increase the capacity…
However: is it possible to get rid of following components looking at the proposed plan?:
smart battery protect; smart shunt; dc buzzer; VE direct; remote on/off switch
thanks for helping and all the best
Peter
In your existing battery you have a BMS that will isolate the cells if there are problems such as high or low voltage and gives info on the SOC. The Victron batteries do not contain this safety isolation, you have to install it. If you do not include a battery protect on your DC loads, then if you get a low cell voltage you will continue to take power from the battery until it is completely empty and destroyed. You have to make sure that all charge sources are shut down by ATC and all loads by ATD signals.
The Victron Smart Lithium batteries do not report the SOC, so you need a shunt if you want to know what is happening, but it is not 100% required. Personally, life will be difficult without it.
You could do away with the alarm buzzer as long as you monitored the system frequently.
