I am looking to replace a busted Zappi charger at home and the Victron chager is quite cheap (under $600 in Australia) right now. I like that it has Modbus TCP control and saw that it’s supported by the wonderful evcc.io project so I can increase/lower the amperage of the charger dynamically to match my excess solar production.
Is anyonke running evcc.io with the Victron EVCS and can share any experiences? I’m mainly interested in communications reliability (no time-outs? is it responsive?) and what increments the charge amperage can be set to (just whole numbers? what about 6.1A or 7.4A?).
Big thank you to VincentVreeburg for posting your code here to the community - it was the deciding factor in me purchasing the NS. Also thanks to Victron for posting a comprehensive Modbus TCP register list.
Thanks for the update mate! Good to know the Modbus stuff is solid. Also thanks for the detailed write up on the HA forum.
Currently tossing up between this Victron charger ($600) or an ABB Terra ($1300), that is twice the price but has OCPP as well as Modbus and can adjust the charge rate in mA increments. They’re nice to have but $700 nice? Dunno. But it’s something I plan to use for over a decade so may as well go all out.
