Alternator sizing for Orion XS 50A DC-DC charger

I just finished installing an Orion XS 50A.

My van (2013 Chevy Express cargo) currently has a 105A alternator. Some models have a 145A alternator that I could probably switch to as well. I do not really have any big added accessories on the starter/alternator circuit.

Assuming I have the proper size cabling, I’m curious what is the most amps my DC-DC can output without shortening my alternators lifespan?

I’m also curious what would the most amps the 145A alternator could support?

I’ve seen a lot of mixed information asking AI/googling around, so hoping to get some more targeted advice.

Thanks!

Hi,

By experiencing, it’s good to not exceed 50% of the alternator capacity to preserve it.

Car alternator are supposed to work at full power during a short instant to fill up the start battery after a start.

With a xs, it would work during a longer time, so it will heat a lot, and can burn.

(Sorry for my english)
