Alarm error - VE.Bus System [261] Overload L1: Warning

Gateway - Venus GX
VE Bus system - Quattro 48/8000/110-2x100 rev2

We had our system installed in July 2022 and have always had VE bus error.
Currently getting 80 a day on average.
When this happens we stop using solar or batteries and pull power from the grid directly, costing us money.

What is the reason for this and how can it be solved

We have spoken to our installers and they say its normal and nothing to worry about

If you are ‘always’ getting VE Bus errors, and some overload warnings on l1 (Do you have a multiphase system?)
First step: Completely shut down the system, and check ALL battery negative connections are tight and clean. Any significant voltage drop between an inverter B- terminal and the Cerbo ground can cause VE bus errors. If this voltage drop gets excessive it can cause irreversible damage.
Second: Check all VE bus cables, and replace any “installer made” cables with good quality shop made UTP cables. Any loose connections here can also cause problems.
A prior system that I consulted on, the installers left some slightly loose negative connections with similar results to that which you describe. Eventually the inverters had to be replaced.

Hi. Thanks for answering my question. We have a single phase system.
I have messaged to the installers to again ask the question as to why we get so many errors ever since the installation 3 years ago.
I will try to ask them to come and check the cables.
I did have a conversation with their main engineer last year and he commented that they always use cables that are too small so they should be changed.
Unfortunately he is now a partner in the business and doesn’t remember having this conversation with me.

The main issue here would be to prevent any voltage difference between the GX device -ve and the inverter battery -ve terminals. On a small system this can be managed - even with undersized cables, by taking the -ve power for the GX unit from the inverter battery -ve terminal directly, rather than from the -ve bus bar. Anyway, good luck!!
