Add a second Multiplus-2

I wondering if anyone can shed some light on this issue.
I want to add a second Multiplus-2 in parallel to my existing MP2 but reading some of the Victron literature it seems that the second unit must have a date code within 6 months of the original to be compatible. Can anyone explain this? I have a background in electronic engineering and find this restriction perplexing.

The further they are apart from manufacuring date, the harder it will be to get a parallel setup to run smooth,

If the older one has a different hw revision its probably not going to work in parallel with a new one,

also one is older and used its hardware will have a different wear from a new one

Try it and it will likely be just fine. This is a CYA clause in the event that Victron had to make some slight changes in the hardware (i.e. due to parts availability, microcontroller HW, etc). In practice, Victron leverages changes in their hardware for years w/o changes. If you work with a reputable, local dealer, there’s a good chance they would let you return the Multi-II if there was a mismatch and you couldn’t get it to work. We would.
