I am going to put 3x MPII 10kVA units into three phase configuration - as these cannot natively support parallel config, three phase operation is the simplest solution to have a 30kVA supply. I already have one unit running in single phase mode, bought a few months which was manufactured this year in week 28 (2428).
I have searched google, the old community page and there are several posts stating that you need to match the three units production dates closely to ensure they all work together and have the same hardware revision. However, there is no detail or hard and fast rule about how to match them via serial numbers are nor is there anyway to check what hardware revision each unit has - well not that is publicly known that I have found.
Example, if I buy two additional MPII 10K units in December and their manufacturing dates are week 40+, how do I know for certain they are compatible with my existing unit?
Existing unit is PMP483105000, SN HQ2428KEVZ6. It would be great to have exact knowledge of what manufacturing dates I need to stay within to match it with the above serial number. Say between 2410 and 2450.
Unfortunately it isn’t that simple as asking the Victron dealer. The supplier I buy my Victron gear from is just that, a supplier with no real technical knowledge or support for Victron. Amazing pricing, but support is at my own whim.
I do have other local Victron dealers to go though, however I don’t particularly enjoy using their time when I am not buying any products through them. My intent is to query what serial numbers my supplier has on hand and place and order based on that.
Asking the local dealer to source close units doesn’t seem like a definitive solution for hardware compatibility. Unless the dealers have access to more detailed information that the general public.
Noted, and that does make sense to a degree. As they are all still linked together via VE Bus and on the one Cerbo I would assume some degree of hardware compatibility is required given all three units must stay in 120 degree phase shift from one another.
I asked my supplier the same question before ordering, i was promised the 3 mp2’s would be within short production range, but one unit was 2 years off. I already did ask the supplier and mailed also Victron. But none of them answered me if i can use it for 3phase with 2 years diff in unit production. It is great to have confirmation before installing them.
Swapping, intended to ask if 2 years diff is not approved for 3phase setup (3x MP2 8kva). But i guess it is ok as the experience showed other users it is not a problem.
For this kind of questions it would be great to have an official resource for checking this.
The official resource says to use inverters of same type and similar age. (Within 6 months) This eliminates the possibility that there could have been hardware changes and there fore possible issues
And really after that the installer decides what to do after that, since in the end the choices there are no longer victrons responsibility. So you just need to make sure those choices aren’t going to compromised your system stability or void warranty.
