I am an electrician in France and I would like to know whether the Victron 230 V - 8000 W Isolation Transformer is suitable for the following application.
1. Current installation
I am working on the electrical installation of a restaurant in France.
An IT rack (network equipment, POS systems, screens, etc.) is supplied by a 6 kVA online UPS.
During battery operation, the UPS output neutral is floating, which has led to a compliance issue regarding the earthing arrangement of the secured circuit.
2. Proposed solution
My idea is to permanently install the Victron 8000 W isolation transformer on the output of the UPS in order to create an isolated secondary 230 V network.
I would then bond one conductor of the transformer’s secondary winding to PE (earth) to create a permanent earth reference for the secondary network. This would ensure that the earthing arrangement remains identical whether the UPS is operating on mains power or on battery power.
3. Why the Victron transformer?
What particularly interests me is the integrated Soft Start function.
A conventional isolation transformer of this size can have a very high inrush current when energised. Since the transformer would be supplied from the output of a UPS, this could potentially create problems. The Soft Start feature therefore appears to be a significant advantage for this application.

Do you see any technical issue with permanently installing this transformer on the output of a 6 kVA online UPS?
