300 amp smart shunt

Hello everyone. I have recently installed a 100/30 smart solar charge controller. My battery setup is 4 x 6v Trojan batteries wired series parallel to get 12v. I have been looking at the 300 amp smart shunt. Would this be suitable for this setup? Would one shunt be enough to monitor my batteries?

Thanks in advance

Graeme

@Graeme1975 just check what is the maximum current you expect to draw from the batteries. Provided it is below 300 amps you will be ok. If it is close to 300 amps I suggest you consider the 500 amp Shunt.

Thanks for your reply. There will be no where near 300 amp so that will be fine. Will one shunt provide all the data for all four batteries? I am.a newbie to this

Thanks

You only need 1 shunt for the whole battery bank. You could if you wish connect the auxiliary connection to the mid point to measure the nominal 6V level to make sure the batteries on series are balanced. Details in the SmartShunt manual

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it

Graeme

handling 300A is not like a i need a bigger hose to water the garden

300 A is really much

We work in an environment where a single inverter/charger by itself can easily pull far more than that, so no, it’s not an unreasonable question in the least.
