On the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/60-Tr there are 2x 2 MC4 connectors for two separate strings of solar panels. Can I use this MPPT in the situation I’ve panels on East and on West? Or should I use two separate MPPT chargers?
With panels on East and West they will never (of course) provide the same voltage/current so would East negatively influence the West solar generation and visa versa?
Hi Rene,
the two sets of mc4 connectors on the 250/60 tr are internally connected in parallel because the max Amp rating of a single mc4 is 30 Amps, so to get to the 60 Amp nameplate rating you would have to use 2 sets of mc4’s to handle the current.
It is a single MPPT, meaning you would need another mppt to manage your east/west strings.
If you connect east and west to this single mppt, you will basically get the worst of both stings except the hours around noon.
