The Nordics (and maybe other parts of the EU) will switch to 15-minute metering on 1 Jan 2025.
I got information from my distributer that this will happen to me at least.
So we will get kWq (kilowattquarters ) instead of kWh I guess.
Will Venus OS and DESS have an option for this timeline and units before then, or at least a choice in the menu to choose from? Or will it happen automatically? Does anybody know?
haha, no : kWh is just a physical unit to measure an amount of electricity, that won’t change.
This change is more important for energy providers than for private people, power plants now do no longer get a “production-schedule-per-hour”, but now have to adjust their output 4 times during an hour to match actually demand (and fluctuating production of renewables) more precicely.
What will change is that your (dynamic) prices will no longer change every 60 minutes (or partially already 30 minutes) but now every 15 minutes.
I understand that. Here everyone have meters that can handel the 15-minute resolution so I guess the distributers will push 15 minute pricing to there customers right away.
Just wonder if there’s a plan for implementing this in Venus OS. It will get crowded , especially on small screens with all that info. And I also wonder if the DESS- algorithm is ready to handel it?
To be fair, kilowattquarters is also a unit of energy, just that nobody’s using it.
Hi @Vyheim. Can you tell me which provider you are using?
On the VRM and Venus side, everything should be working with the 15 minute schedules, but so far we haven’t seen any of the Nordic countries actually switching schedule.
The provider backtracked on the information they sent out so need for changes yet. Guess someone at (Dalakraft AB) got a bit itchy in the trigger finger.
Have a nice 2025 and thank you, and Victron for your engagement in this forum!
It is scheduled to happen all over Europe. We are ready for that. As one provider will be quicker than the other, we’ll have the option to choose between hourly and 15 minute prices.
Will this be coming directly through the firmware update?
I want to second the request for supporting 15 min metering, since especially in the nordic countries for PV users, grid costs are the driving factor of the overall costs. I actually even considered going totally island mode to avoid that
The underlying Venus firmware is already prepared for 15 minute intervals, so no user interaction will be needed on the GX side (both 3.55 and 3.60~58).
The VRM side is ready for it too, but the user might need to actually set if he/she is on a 15 minute or 1 hour schedule. That depends a bit on how the providers over Europe will implement their contracts. If we can automatically set the window size for the user, we will do that.
