I am trying to charge my 2 x 200amp Lithium batteries from my alternator and was going to use an Orion Dc-Dc. Can i wire direct to lithium or must i go through a lead acid battery?
@Carldc57 hello. I am not quite sure what “go through a lead acid battery” really means as the batteries being charged will be in parallel but the answer is no, no lead acid battery is required.
Hello,
Here the way to connect your device to charge lithium batteries…
Be aware of the drawing capabilities current needed by the lithium batteries for charging.
Be sure your alternator will support it !
Or you will need to tune the Orion for.
You can not connect direct from the alternator to the Orion input and then to the lithium batteries. You must have the lead acid battery on the alternator outlet. Many people have tried without the lead acid battery and get unstable alternator voltage and current. The alternator voltage regulator needs the lead acid battery to act as a buffer to stabilise the system.
Hi Pw i have 2 x 12v 200amp hr lithium batteries that i want to charge. Does it matter what size the lead acid battery is or is it just to stabilise current from alternator?
Thanks Carl
Just to stabilise the alternator so a 50Ah starter battery should be OK.
