I’m just wondering if it’s the car that’s telling the charger what current to use or if it’s the Cerbo calculating it depending on home battery SOC and solar input. This is for an off grid system.
I can charge the car at 32A in manual mode but when I change to auto it maxes out at about 22A and fluctuates all over the place. I have the auto setting to start charging at 70% and stop at 60%. The home battery was between 76 and 80% when I was monitoring it.
can you share a video from the main webpage of the EVCS while trying both methods?
Yes I’ll do it tomorrow as its finished charging now.
I just watched off grid garage and have now enabled “Allow low excess solar power for auto mode”. Once I get back from a drive today I’ll do some more testing and take some videos.
I got some more data after keeping an eye on it yesterday while charging. So it looks to be a combination of solar available and house battery SOC that is controlling the EV charge rate. It did get up to 26A for a short time up until the house battery dropped to 79% and then it reduced the EV charge rate. Once the solar tops the house battery up to 80% the EV charger ramps up again. It would appear that the only way to get the EV charger to output more current in auto mode would be to install more solar. Luckily I have another 9.5kW being installed in the next few weeks. Sorry I couldn’t get videos as the changes happened over a long time so the videos were huge. Some photos for reference though.
Yes, that is normal. So I guess everything works as expected, correct?
Hi Lucian,
In the off grid environment:
Is there any way we can get an offset, so that instead of controlling around 0W of ESS charging, we could control around 300W, or 500W if there’s lots of intermittent clouds? So that we generally don’t go backwards on the ESS state of charge.
Or have a range of ESS charging Power:
<70%. 1500W
70%-85%. 1000W
85%-95% 800W
.>95% 230W
That way you could set it going in the morning and walk away with both your EV and ESS charged upon return.
PS love love love the EVCS in auto. just got it going an hour ago.
Yes now that I understand how it works then yes it is working correctly.
