VRM feature request SMS text

Not sure if this has ever been asked before but i would like to put in a request to add direct SMS texting for alerts as a feature in VRM.

My use case is for off grid alerting. Currently i receive push notifications in the app just fine if i have a cell signal but if i am out of cell signal range and am using Starlink direct to cell i do not receive them. I can receive SMS text without issue in those scenarios over the Starlink system.

I have tried to use my cell providers email to sms feature but that has proven very unreliable. I use VRM to alert on power outages as well as temp alerts for temp sensors i have added. Using this to know if we have an issue so we can keep our pets safe if we are away from the RV. Being able to receive them reliably over SMS would be huge for my piece of mind as we travel in remote places.

Sorry if this has been asked before but i did not find it in a search.

Thanks.

Cool idea, however the cost of that… All the 2fa and other services that do this pay an aggregated fee for the privilege.

I sort of looked into the option myself a while ago.

Be easier for you to pursue this personally.

So I have and it works less than 50% of the time, thats part of the problem. looking for something more reliable. I have checked in with my provider on the failure and they told me it’s available but not a function they put any effort into any more so if the systems go down they get to it when they can not urgently like they would with SMS.

Hi!

Back in the days we used to have this. Unfortunately, that led to some malicious attacks from SMS-pumping schemes, hence why we now offer push notifications and mail notifications.

All alarm emails start with ‘Alarm’ as the subject line, so maybe you can set up a rule to text yourself with IFTTT when you get an alarm email?

Kind regards,

Barbara from the VRM team

Thanks for the update. I’m looking into options now, unfortunately its not going to be a simple solution from my end. I just found out my provider has completely discontinued the email to sms feature i’m guessing for similar reasons to yours.
