Voltage peak problem when connecting Eaton UPS

Hi Everyone,
I’ve build a mobile powersupply in the back of a van for replacing my gasoline generator.
Everything was going just fine until yesterday. Somebody came over to do some work and now both of his Eaton ellipse 1200 ups has a blown up HF140FF. Before that happend the ups shown a very strange behaviour. The voltage meter on the eaton’s went up from 230V to last seen number 450V.

So my question now is:

  • Is there a possibility it has something to do with the battery system i made? (i uploaded a diagram)
  • And if there is, What do i have to do better to avoid this in the Future?
  • Is there a possibility that the voltage went up because the UPS gave power on the earth wire when the Earth relay of the Quattro’s were closed?(this would be just a big guess)

Side notes:

  • There are no strange things visible in de VRM log.
  • I already check all the cabeling an splitters on loose wires didn’t find any.
  • At this particulair moment there was NO connection to the grid.

Lijndiagram EVITO INSTALLATIE.pdf (413,5 KB)

It lost its neutral reference loss, or if it is single phase somehow it was reading line to line voltage. Confirm the eaton is single phase ups?

It would be supply wiring related most likely.
Possibly someone mixed what goes where.

The Eaton UPS was a single fase UPS

Have you verified the voltage readings the uos is showing with a meter? Maybe it has an issue?

The only verification of the readings i have at this moment. Is that the meter on both UPS did this just before they died (The film i’ve attached is of that moment). There was no other power source then the battery pack. Did measure all inverters, batteries and cables afterwards with my multimeter.
I looked for loose ends.
Didn’t see anything strange.
I even tried to use it again with some old school lamps, a refrigerator and a coffe machine,
that went just fine no spikes at all.

Also looked into the ups and its cabling,
I did not see anything that should cause this problem on that side.

So now i ordered 2 new eaton ellipse pro ups voor and i think that i’m going to trie to reproduce the problem.
Just to be sure that it’s not the battery pack as there will be expensive equiptment going to use it.

The problem stays a big mistery for me so far.
Will keep you posted on the reproduction of the problem
with the new UPS.
If thats going to bring me some clarification will let you know.

Thaks for your time so far.
