I recently installed a Victron Energy MultiPlus-II GX 48V 3000 along with a Pylontech US5000 battery as a backup power system. However, after installation, I encountered a problem.
I followed the wiring instructions, connected the battery and the grid, and then turned on the battery. Immediately, it started making loud and strange noises. Concerned, I turned off the battery, and the noises stopped.
Now, while connected to the grid, VRM shows that the inverter is working as if it were running from the battery:
I hear the noise only when the battery is turned on. When the battery is off, everything is quiet, but the system thinks it’s running on battery power according to VRM, which seems really strange. The noise isn’t just a normal relay click - it’s quite loud and sounds problematic, almost like something vibrating or rattling continuously.
Do you think this could still be the changeover relays? Should they make that much noise? And any idea why VRM would show it’s running on battery when I’m clearly connected to the grid?
Has anyone had issues with MultiPlus-II GX compatibility with the Pylontech US5000? I’m wondering if I missed something in the setup.
Hi yes the change over relays make a racket and the Victron system isn’t design to run solely from AC it’s DC designed in mind.
Are you able to post a vid of the noise. But when switching over it does sound very worrying, personally I’ve only come round to accepting that noise at least you know the grid is back if you haven’t got access to a screen lol
Thanks for your reply. The battery is actually brand new and charged. The interesting thing is that the Victron was basically disconnected from the battery when I took that screenshot. Does it still show battery stats when connected to the grid only? That’s what confuses me - it seems to think it’s running on battery power even when there’s no battery connected or when the battery is turned off.
Thanks everyone for your help so far. I’ve made some progress - I discovered that the BMS cable was damaged, so I created a new one following the guide. Now I can properly see the battery in the system list, which resolved the strange noise issue.
However, I’m still encountering a problem. When I turn on the Grid and set the inverter status to ON, it clicks a few times (normal sounds, not the concerning noise from before) but then immediately alarms with “Overload”
