VM-3P75CT Energy Value Sums wrong or not?

How are the sums of Total Energy Forward and Reverse, shown in the VictronConnect App, calculated?

(I thought Energy L1+L2+L3 should be Energy “Total”?!)

In the manual are only one phase and Energy L1 is equal to Energy Total.

My VM3 settings are:

Hi @MSl1, the way the total energy values are calculated depend on the “Energy registration method” setting. The method you’re describing is in line with Arithmetic registration.

Currently you’re using Vector registration, which means that the energy values of all phases of the last grid cycle are summed and that total value is then either added to the forward counter or the reverse counter. For instance if you have 10kW on L1, -3kW on L2 and -2kW on L3; the total power is 5kW and only the forward energy counter is incremented.

For Arithmetic registration, both the forward and reverse energy counters would be updated in this case.

Note that changing the energy registration method setting does not change the values already stored in the energy counters. So you’ll have to reset the energy counters if you want the sum of all phases to be identical to the total values.

Hello Luc,

thank you very much for the detailed explanation.

I thought the VM3 setting should be equal to the grid meter method (vector) of my electricity supplier.

I understand it right? The VM3 registration method is independent from the grid meter method. But to control my ESS right with the VM3 the “Energy registration method” of the VM3 MUST be equal to the grid meter method of the electricity supplier.

Only for my information: How long is the “grid cycle” of the VM3?

Regards, Mario

Hi @MSl1 the energy registration setting of the VM-3P75CT has no influence on the behaviour of ESS. However, in order to compare the data of the VM-3P75CT with the billing info from your electricity supplier you must use the same method as them.

What I mean by grid cycle is just one full period of the grid voltage. So for a 50Hz grid it is 20ms and for a 60Hz grid it is 16.67ms.

Oh, the micro processor in the VM3 is working “hard” to count, compute and in/decrement all values.

Thanks!
