VM-3P75CT double shown in cerbo gx device list

Hello,

my VM-3P75CT [VM3] is connected to my cerbo gx via Powerline/LAN/WLAN/LAN since many months.

Yes, it’s a little crazy but mostly functional. Sometimes the connection goes down. In the evening occurs disturbances on the (power)line from the grid outside.

So, yesterday I connected my VM3 over a 25 m VE.Can Bus line to my cerbo gx.

I connected the VE.Can Bus line, and disconnect the LAN connection from the VM3.

The VE.Can device was immediately listed in the cerbo and functional.

But… I cannot see the VM3 in the VictronConnect App. I don’t want loose this feature.

So I re-connect again the VM3 LAN line. The VictronConnect App list the VM3 again.

But… now in the cerbo are TWO VM3s with identical S/N and similary power values listed. (If I rename the first entry, insert “VE.Can” to the string, BOTH entries will be renamed…)

  1. Is this a problem, two VM3 instances?

The ESS is running fine.

For safety reasons I disabled the Modbus VM3 device. (last screenshot)

  1. It is possible to have BOTH VM3 connections active, as redundant lines?

Best Regards
M.

VE.Can entry has VRM instance 0
LAN entry has VRM instance 40

Dear M,

you connected the smart meter with two possibilities
ve-van
AND
ModbusTCP
So just chooce one of them and disconnect the other one.
My choice would be ve-CAN.

Have Fun

Marc

PS it does not harm to see both like that. Only ONE should be really used in the system.

PPS The different readings are timings of the different protocols only.

PPPS There won’t be redundancy. Only one is really used.

I think also, only one VM3 instance will be used. I assume the lowest instance, here 0 VE.Can, will be used by default.

If I disconnect the VM3 LAN line, I will lose the connectivity to VictronConnect.

At the moment, VM3 VE.Can is the energy meter for the ESS.
