Victron Power Monitoring from 2 Sources

I am installing a system with a small feed of PV through a 100/15 Victron MPPT and then a wind turbine through a Chinese charge controller. Both go to a 24vbattery bank with Victron shunt and then Victron inverter. Although I can see the MPPT input power through the portal I only see the total on the Battery monitor output. Is there anyway to monitor the wind turbine output separately?

thanks

Add a victrin shunt from turbine charge controller to battery.

As above, use a Victron SmartShunt or BMV712 on the wind turbine negative and set it to a DC energy meter, details in the manual.

oh thanks. I did wonder whether it was just another shunt required. Appreciated

Hi and thanks!. Finally got round to doing this. Can see the device on the Device List as part of the Cerbo GX and individually can see the data when I click on it through device list (so all working!). However I dont see anything on the dashboard for the Cerbo GX. I would thought id see it as a generator or something?

Anu further help much appreciated

At the moment I do not think that it appears, there may be domestic refinements coming. One way to get it on the dashboard is to set the tmtype as Solar then it will be added to any other DC Solar you have. The Solar tile will then show the total and possibly a breakdown of both. On the GX device display, clicking will show details for both.

ok thanks, useful ill try that

Forgot to ask where that is “settings” of Cerbo?

You set it to solar on the BMV 712 / SmartShunt.

On the Cerbo you have to be on the m cal console or remote console, you normally just tap the screen and a settings icon appears and from there, all system settings are available.

thanks. funnily enough when I loaded the remote console in the “new” format there was an input called wind showing the power input but it doesn’t show on std VRM

Yes, DC power display appears to be a work in progress with improvements being made.

Hi and hopefully a final question without opening a new thread.

I see the power being generated by the wind turbine on the shunt on Victron connect (shown on left in picture below) and being fed from the charge controller above. However when I look at the Battery monitor 712 (on right) which is connected to the smart solar charger and inverter on “system” (solar shut off to isolate that power) I dont see the power being recognised. I attach screen shot of 712. Power shows negative…around 11w but when I isolate the wind feed that more or less stays as -13w.

The battery negative terminal on the wind SmartShunt MUST be connected to the load side of the BMV712 shunt so that the BMV can measure it. You have connected your wind SmartShunt direct to the battery by the look of things.

ahh I knew I should have done electrical engineering rather than chemical

I am a Chemical Engineer, it is just like pipe networks, pumps and flowmeters.

Probably why I gave it up and decided to lead global operations…..we share two things in common, retired chemical engineers and boat lovers although mine sits in the med…

As a side to the original post do you know if the history and trends of power gen (accessible via the vic connect) is stored because as soon as I close the shunt connect page down I lose the history?

thanks again

Dunc

I stayed in technical career till retirement and still do some part time consulting.

Anyway, stored trends, I do not believe that these are stored for energy meter role. It is not listed on Section 11.1 of the VictronConnect manual.

I need to download the manual and give it a good read tomorrow. That’s a shame as I really need to record wind power.

Well as you have a Cerbo GX and it is connected to VRM you should be logging data to VRM and this is stored for 6 months. You can vary the frequency of the data stored, default is 15 mins, Section 13.3 of the Verbo manual. You can then download your system data whenever you want into Excel or csv format, Section 17.5 of the VRM manual. I download a dataset each month so I have all data from boat launch onward.

yes but as you say it doesn’t record the shunt data as a power meter (even though its connected to the GX via cable)

You can configure a widget for total power accumulated but I can’t work out if that would also include PV
