Victron Orion stuck in Absorption Mode

Hi there hope you can help with this problem we have had for last 6 months.

Set-up:

Roamer 230 leisure battery

T6.1 Stop/Start Alternator with new battery
Victron Lynx Power In 1000 fed by
Orion-TR Smart 12/12-30A Isolated
VE Direct Smart Sonar Panel Controller - working well
Main Charger - working well

On starting the engine the Orion kicks into Bulk mode for a few minutes then to Absorption but does not provide any charge to the leisure battery. Orion not entering shutdown mode.

Thought most welcome!?

What year was the vehicle built? A smart alternator can cause problems because the starter battery is only charged to around 60% during normal driving.

If a charger quickly goes to bulk then absorption without any charge current it often means that there is a high resistance poor connection between the charger and the battery. The terminal of the Orion quickly rises to the set voltage because of the voltage drop. The poor connection can be in either the positive or negative wiring at any joint. On vehicles the ground connection to the chassis is often an issue or if you have cheap resettable breakers. A multimeter will help find it.

Thanks for responding, full van details attached + Orion readings after driving for 2 hours.

Please measure the starter battery voltage with the engine running. If it drops from 14.x V to 12.6 V after a few minutes, you have a smart generator and will need to adjust some engine-running detection values.

Ask the VW dealer about the RV programming.
